Transgenderism

Consider the following statistics for a few moments:

  • According to a 2022 Pew survey, 1.6 percent of U.S. adults claim to be transgender. Three percent of adults between the ages of eighteen and twenty-nine say they are non-binary (people whose gender identity doesn’t sit comfortably as man or woman) and 2 percent said they are transgender, but only 0.3 percent of those fifty years old or older (born in 1972 or before) make such a claim.[1]

  • A Gallup poll done in 2023 found that within Generation Z (those born between 1997 and 2012), the LGBT population doubled in just four years, from 10.5 percent in 2017 to 20.8 percent in 2021; for the nation as a whole 7.2 percent of adults say they are LGBT.[2]

  • In a 2014 Pew Research Center study, 51 percent of evangelical millennials said same-sex behavior is morally acceptable.[3]

While some of these statistics do not relate specifically to the transgender issues, they do reveal alarming changes in both general public and church thinking toward homosexual and transgender issues. To gain a deeper understanding of the transgender issues themselves and the challenges an individual or family faces, we present this overview. Our approach to the topic is divided up into a number of different aspects of the rather large and complicated area of human sexuality called transgenderism.
