Biblical Worldview

Three quick facts:

  1. Everyone has a worldview.

  2. Our worldview is derived from our personal thought and experience as we interact with culture, including what we view, read, listen to, and what we are taught as children.

  3. Our worldview is not static, but dynamic, developing over the course of our life.

What is a worldview?

A worldview is a pattern of ideas, beliefs, convictions, and habits that helps us make sense of God, the world and our relationship to God and the world.

Consciously or unconsciously, our worldview develops answers to the following questions:
Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going?

Who am I?

Our view of what it means to be human, and what gives humans identity; this impacts our response to every moral issue of our time.

Why am I here?

Our belief about what gives meaning and purpose to human life; it impacts our decisions about how we use our time and resources, as well as how we value and respond to the rest of the world.

Where am I going?

Our understanding about the direction life is going impacts our attitudes, decisions, and behavior toward people, creation, popular beliefs, and events in the present, as we envision a future based on our worldview.

What is the Biblical worldview?

The Biblical worldview provides a framework, or lens, for looking at life in this world. Acting as a map for how we see reality, it shapes how we answer life’s biggest questions based on our reading and understanding of the Bible.

It is the Bible that teaches us concerning the Creator and his purpose in creating us. In the Bible we learn of God’s power, love, and authority.  All these things help us to know and understand the worldview of our Father, i.e. the Biblical worldview.
